Surgical Learning Center

The 5,600 sf Surgical Learning Center program consists of a bio-skills lab where simulation training involving suturing, tissue cutting, Trocar insertion for minimally invasive surgical procedures, two mock operating rooms and an associated control room to simulate clinical/operating room scenarios.

The Surgical Learning Center is equipped with an audio/visual system allowing interaction with the hospital’s operating rooms and globally with other hospitals and learning institutions.

The bio-skills area is an open lab containing eight procedure tables of translucent solid surface material that glow from a grid of overhead surgical lights. All systems are exposed overhead and painted black to bring focus on the activities below. Full height glass walls front two mock operating rooms allowing viewing without interference.

The resulting environment is both innovative and forward looking appropriately reflecting the activities and technology within.
